Objective performance data in amateur football arrives with zone14
Video-based performance and tactical analysis at a professional level: Austrian sports tech company zone14 launches with STATS

Video-based performance and tactical analysis at a professional level – without GPS vests
VIENNA, AUSTRIA - 28th January 2026 - The Austrian sports tech company zone14 is launching STATS, a new analysis module within the zone14 platform. STATS calculates performance and tactical data directly from the match recording – without GPS vests, sensors or additional hardware on the pitch.
Technically, this means the system analyses the camera image, detects player movements and evaluates them automatically. For the club, it’s quite simple: recording a match is enough to get measurable performance data.
After the final whistle, coaches often rely on their gut feeling. STATS complements that feeling with objective data that shows what really happened – not just what you think you saw.
But what does STATS actually do?
STATS uses the existing match recording to track the players’ positions and movements throughout the entire match. From these movements, the system calculates running distances, intense runs, sprints and the distances between players and units of the team, among other things.
What makes it special:
Instead of measuring with sensors on the body, all values are derived from the images themselves. The camera becomes the basis for measurement – comparable to GPS systems, but without the organisational effort they involve.

This makes it possible not only to evaluate fitness metrics but also to answer tactical questions:
- Did the back line hold a consistently high position, or did it drop off as the match went on?
- How compact was the team between the lines?
- From which minute did intensity drop – and for which players?
Developed in real match conditions
Before its official release, STATS went through an intensive testing phase lasting several months. Clubs from various European countries used STATS in their normal training and match routine – across different leagues, pitch sizes and camera positions.
Lukas Grömer, responsible for technology development at zone14, explains:
The beta phase was our training camp. We tested STATS under real conditions and implemented feedback from our first users directly, to make sure our algorithms perform reliably even in challenging environments. The official launch is a milestone for our team and our promise to the coaching world: this tool is not only innovative but proven in practice, reliable and ready to deliver the decisive edge in every match.
What STATS delivers
- Heatmaps that show where players actually were
- Compactness values that make the distances between units of the team measurable
- High-Intensity Runs (HIRs) to assess the intensity of play
- Automated player reports, generated directly from the video analysis All metrics are linked directly to the video: coaches can check and put every number into context in the footage.
Alongside the STATS launch, the entire zone14 platform has also been developed further – with a faster video player, easier clipping of scenes and flexible match durations.

Market launch with an early adopter offer
For the official launch, zone14 is offering a limited-time early adopter offer. Clubs get access to the full STATS package from €79 per month – without having to buy or manage any additional hardware.
